FidoCadJ is a very easy-to-use editor, with a library of electrical symbols and footprints (through hole and SMD). Drawings can be exported in several graphic formats (PDF, EPS, PGF for LaTeX, SVG, PNG, and JPEG). Although very simple and not relying on any netlist concept, FidoCadJ can be considered a basic electronic design automation program. FidoCadJ uses a file format containing only UTF-8 text, which is very compact and suited for copying and pasting with newsgroups and forum messages. This determined its success, as it is quite versatile for simple mechanical drawings as well as for electronics.

Release Notes: This release adds internal reorganization towards more modular, portable, and clear code. Selecting a new layer while having elements selected allows changing their layers. More ergonomic search is available in the libraries, and more zoom levels are available.
Release Notes: This release adds a Czech translation of the user interface. The "Split non standard macros while saving" modal option has been replaced by an immediate menu item. It corrects a lot of bugs, including a nasty one, which in some cases produced very big temp directories, slowing down the startup and the overall use of FidoCadJ. When the zoom level is increased or decreased with the magnification tool, the place where the user clicks is centered.
Release Notes: The user can now create new library symbols and edit existing libraries. Standard and non-standard libraries are identified by different icons. Macros can be split (select one, then right click and "split macro"), and they can be moved through user-defined libraries via drag-and-drop in the library tree. When introducing text, a list of some UTF-8 characters (maths symbols, Greek letters, etc.) is now available and very easy to use. This release adds a Japanese translation of the user interface.
Release Notes: This version has some bugfixes and a few new features and improvements to the user interface. Vertices can now be added and deleted from a polygon and a spline curve. A Dutch translation of the user interface and a Chinese translation of the user manual have been added.
Release Notes: This release adds the new "curve" primitive (natural cubic spline). It adds support for italic text lines. There are Spanish and Chinese translations of the user interface. The IHRaM library has been updated to v. 3.1. There are many bugfixes.
