Rescatux is a GNU/Linux rescue CD that comes with Rescapp, a nice wizard that will guide you through your rescue tasks. It can restore Grub to the MBR update a Grub configuration, perform filesystem checks, fix a Windows MBR, and more. Features that can indirectly assist the rescue process include chat programs to let you reach human online help, a share log (automatic pastebin), and a share log that uses formatting appropriate for posting on a forum.

Release Notes: Non-standard partitions such as LVM or encrypted ones in some setups made Rescapp not detect hard disks properly. This issue has been fixed. The cryptsetup package has been added so that advanced users can luksmount their partition with a command line interface.
Release Notes: Two new options were added: Promote a Windows user to Administrator and Unlock a Windows user. grub-install and update-grub options were improved to handle Fedora installations better. Now the Update Grub option should work on any Grub2 system. XFE is the new default file manager, replacing qtfm. LVM and RAID support was added for the Restore Grub and Update Grub options.
Release Notes: Debian Wheezy (the new Debian Stable) is now being used as a base. Razor-qt 5.x desktop is used in place of LXDE. A frame has been added so the embedded webpage is clearly distinguished from actual options in Rescapp. The chat nickname has been improved so that it shows Rescapp version. Boot-repair, clean-ubiquity, os-uninstaller, testdisk, and photorec programs have been added. These tools and Gparted have been arranged in a new Rescapp option called Expert Tools. The extundelete program has been added for commandline experts.
Release Notes: The system has been updated to the next Debian Stable Wheezy. Gparted was updated to 0.12.1, which includes the new option "Attempt data rescue". A Gpart package was added so that the Gparted attempted data rescue option works. It can also be used by expert users.
Release Notes: If you selected Rescatux autodetect at boot, it tried to load a 32-bit kernel when you had a 64-bit one and vice-versa. There was another bug that made the manual Rescatux 32-bit and Rescatux 64-bit options unusable; they just showed you kernel panic errors. These two major bugs have been fixed.
