bbe is a sed-like editor for binary files. Instead of reading input in lines as sed, bbe reads arbitrary blocks from an input stream and performs byte-related transformations on found blocks. Blocks can be defined using start/stop strings, stream offset and block length, or a combination. Basic editing commands include delete, replace, search/replace, binary operations (and, or, etc.), append, and bcd/ASCII conversion. For examining the input stream, it contains some grep-like features like printing the input file name, stream offset, and block number of found blocks. Block contents can also be printed in different formats like hex, octal, ASCII, and binary.

ffe is a flat file extractor. It can be used for reading different flat file structures and displaying them in different formats. ffe can read fixed length and separated text files and fixed length binary files. It is a command line tool developed under GNU/Linux. The main areas of use are extracting particular fields or records from a flat file, converting data from one format to an other, e.g. from CSV to fixed length, verifying a flat file structure, as a testing tool for flat file development, and displaying flat file content in human readable form.

tlve is a command-line tool to parse different tlv (tag-length-value) structures and for printing them in different text-based formats. For example, tlve supports ASN.1 BER encoding. tlve is appropriate for processing tlv files in server environments.
